Legoland Malaysia

The mere mention of the word Lego will bring back fond memories to many. Just imagine what goes on inside the minds of Lego fans when they see Legoland. This here is a pretty comprehensive introduction to Legoland Malaysia.

Theme parks are all fun and enjoyment, the fountain of youth for adults, and a haven for kids. More so if the said theme park is closely related to the toys that one grew up playing with. I grew up playing with LEGO blocks, the building blocks of the mind, and when Legoland landed in Malaysia I was ecstatic.

First International Theme Park In Malaysia

Legoland is not something new. The first Legoland is Legoland Billund in Denmark. The park opened its doors in 1968 with 10 different worlds and has been one of the sources of fun for over 1.6 million visitors annually. The other Legolands are Legoland Windsor (since 1996), California (since 1999),  Deutschland (since 2002), Florida (since 2011), and Malaysia which opened its doors back in 15th November 2012. Legoland Malaysia is the 6th Legoland to be opened, and the first Legoland theme park in Asia.

Let us take a look at the various Fun Zones in Legoland Malaysia. In this article you will be provided with an idea of what to expect at each zones with tiny bite size details on the rides, attractions, and some of the requirements. Why bite size details? Well, like a movie that you plan to watch; you do not want too many spoilers, right?

This section of the park is where over a hundred LEGO crazy builders and master builders from around the world showcase their amazing works made up of the many landmarks in Asia such as the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, Singapore’s Merlion Park, India’s Taj Mahal, Angkor Wat, etc. covering 17 different cities and countries at a scale of 1:20

The Miniland project in Malaysia is the largest ever built for a new park taking more than three years to complete. Many of the models are animated such as boats, trains, lorries, etc. My favourite is that of a battle scene where a boat shoots its cannons trying to hit targets and vice versa.

Many of the models were built in Malaysia at Legoland’s model shop in Nusa Cemerlang, Johor Bahru. Others were constructed in the USA, Denmark, Germany, and the Czech Republic before being transported over.

Junior Driving School

The Driving School offers children an opportunity to drive on a circuit that simulates real driving experiences where they will drive LEGO cars past traffic signs, traffic lights, etc. This qualifies them for a “drivers license” in Legoland Malaysia after learning the rules of the road. There is also a Junior Driving School with slower single pedal cars for smaller children.

Ride Restrictions: Must be between 3 to 5 years old to enjoy this ride. Riders/ guests must be able to reach the pedals and steering wheel.

Here is where one goes to build one’s muscles by putting off fires at an apartment block in Lego City. Here one will have to move a fire engine as fast as possible (beating other teams) by pumping a lever with one’s hands to move the fire truck to the burning building, pump water off a water cannon to put off the fire, and again pump the lever of the fire engine to return to its original place or parking. LEGO Kingdoms

(The Dragon, The Dragon’s Apprentice, The Forestman’s Hideout, Merlin’s Challenge, Royal Joust, Castle Stage)

This section takes you back to the middle ages where knights and dragons rule. Walk into a castle and see what it is like in medieval Lego times. Everything here is medieval themed including the Lego characters and of course, rides.

Johor, Malaysia, family, family fun, family vacation, family trip, holidays, vacation, must do in Johor, fun, legoland, wild, kids, kids holiday, laughs, legoland malaysia, wet park, theme parks, what to do in Malaysia, things to do in Malaysia, things to do in Johor, thihgs to do in Legoland Malaysia

The Castle at Lego Kingdoms. This is where one gets to ride The Dragon (roller coaster) through a medieval castle.

The Dragon

My favourite ride here is The Dragon. The Dragon is a roller coaster that takes you inside the castle through the middle ages, riding on a dragon.  It certainly is not as scary as many of the world’s roller coasters. This means that more people get to enjoy the ride.

Ride Restrictions: Must be above 6 years old & 100cm to enjoy this ride. Riders/ guests below 120 cm must be accompanied by another person who should be at least 12 years old.

Johor, Malaysia, family, family fun, family vacation, family trip, holidays, vacation, must do in Johor, fun, legoland, wild, kids, kids holiday, laughs, legoland malaysia, wet park, theme parks, what to do in Malaysia, things to do in Malaysia, things to do in Johor,

The Dragon at the highest point of the track against the sunny sky. The Dragon is a roller coaster ride that goes through a medieval castle.

The Dragon’s Apprentice

The Dragon’s Apprentice offers younger guests a taste of the faster and more exhilarating roller coaster, The Dragon. Makes sense as there is a minimum requirement that one needs to meet before one gets to ride on The Dragon. If one does not meet them, worry not. Here is its apprentice. This ride is for adults and kids that cannot take the G-forces and speed of The Dragon.

Ride Restrictions: Must be above 4 years old & 100 cm to enjoy this ride. Must be above 6 years old & 120 cm to ride alone.

The Dragon Apprentice is a a thrilling roller coaster ride for those who are unsure if they can handle The Dragon (bigger roller coaster) and kids that are too small to ride The Dragon.

Merlin’s Challenge

Merlin’s Challenge is a merry-go-round that goes round at high speeds allowing one to experience G-forces throughout the ride while riding in a Lego train. One will certainly get dizzy after the ride. Certainly not a ride for those with motion sickness.

Ride Restrictions: Must be above 4 years old & 100 cm to enjoy this ride. Must be above 8 years old & 120 cm to ride alone. Riders/ guests below 120 cm must be accompanied by another person who should be at least 12 years old.

Royal Joust

Familiar with the term jousting? Jousting is a medieval sport where two knights each on a horse from opposite directions, ride towards each other with the objective of knocking each other down with various weapons (usually lances). The Royal Joust ride is the same minus the violence. Here children ride on small mechanical horses around a circuit. They must be able to ride alone.

Ride Restrictions: Must be between 4 and 11 years old & 92 cm to enjoy this ride. (Single rider)

Note that only original Lego characters are allowed in the swap. This goes for every part of the character.
