Pao Xiang Bah Kut Teh (Non-Halal)
Sunway Velocity Hotel Kuala Lumpur
When it comes to bak kut teh or bah kut teh, Klang comes to mind. Amongst the many bak kut teh or bah kut teh places in Klang, Pao Xiang Bah Kut Teh is one of the more well known ones. Bak kut teh simply means pork bone tea or soup. For the benefit of those who have not heard of bak kut teh, bak kut teh is a soup dish with pork meat and bones boiled with certain herbs for hours. This soup dish is tasty, with a rich aroma from the herbs used as well as the meat and bones.
Bak kut teh is said to have originated in China (Fujian Province). But a lot of my friends from China, Hong Kong (especially), and Taiwan says that the best bak kut teh is here in Malaysia. They always buy packets of pre-packed bak kut teh soup from our grocery stores and bring them back with them to their respected countries.
Delicious soft bone pork bak kut teh dish.
Pao Xiang Bah Kut Teh started in Klang back in the year 2000 with a small stall that can sit up to thirty (30) diners at once. They heavily differentiated themselves from other bak kut teh brands by focusing on a technique called string tied method where the pork if tied together with a cotton string to keep its shape and texture. Business has since grown both locally as well as internationally going into China, Thailand, and Singapore.
Needless to say, Pao Xiang Bah Kut Teh serves delicious string tied pork as they (there are a few types) are the signature dishes there. They also have pig tendon, pork belly, soft bone meat, pork ribs, etc. But it is not just the bak kut teh that is delicious. Pao Xiang Bah Kut Teh also serves very delicious sea cucumber in bak kut teh soup dish, and delicious abalone in bak kut teh soup dishes. They were introduced to me at the Pao Xiang Bah Kut Teh outlet in Sunway Velocity Mall, Kuala Lumpur.
Delicious sea cucumber bak kut teh dish.
The natural sweetness of the sea cucumber together with the bak kut teh soup adding flavour and aroma to it. This natural sweetness gives the bak kut teh soup a new distinct taste and is super delicious. According to the outlet manager, the reason why the sea cucumber is sweet, soft, yet chewy, and has lots of flavours is because they use fresh sea cucumber and not the dried type that is used in many a seafood restaurants. This sea cucumber dish is my new “must have” dish whenever I visit Pao Xiang Bah Kut Teh.
A table of deliciousness.
Should you be craving bak kut teh (or happen to be wanting to eat something but just not sure what); Pao Xiang Bah Kut Teh could be the place to go to. To date there are seven (7) Pao Xiang Bah Kut Teh outlets in Malaysia. They are:
