Butterflies, insects, spiders, and reptiles are common in Cameron Highlands. They live in the jungle areas and most of them are seldom seen by visitors unless they decide to go on an adventure on the jungle trails. Even when one hikes these trails, spotting them is really by chance and certainly not guaranteed.
Farms And Gardens
There are the Cameron Highlands Butterfly Farm & Cameron Highlands Butterfly Garden that one can visit should one be interested in taking a closer look at these insects, reptiles, spiders, and butterflies.
Beautiful butterflies enjoying a flower.
[ The stars of the place are the Rajah Brooke’s Birdwing (Trogonoptera brookiana) butterflies… ]
Safe For Viewing
Needless to say some of these insects, reptiles, and spiders do bite or can give one an awful sting. I am sure most people will scream their lungs out should spiders, scorpions, big tarantulas, huge stick insects, etc. be allowed to roam free. These scary critters are kept within glass enclosures, and cages for the safety of visitors.
Gentle creatures of flying worms; its up to you.
Hangout With Butterflies
Butterflies are generally cute and beautiful creatures thus there is a large enclosure that is somewhat like a garden that visitors can go into and hangout with them. These butterflies fly freely and some of them do come close, and even land on people who smell like roses (perhaps).
There are not many varieties of butterflies that share this large enclosure. The stars of the place are the Rajah Brooke’s Birdwing (Trogonoptera brookiana) butterflies. These larger butterfly species comes in black and very nice green colours. Their numbers are certainly more than the other butterfly species that share the same enclosure.
The awesome Raja Brooke’s Birdwing butterfly.
Photographer’s Playground
Photographers will have a field day shooting at so many subjects including butterflies, insects, reptiles, flowers, etc. There are so many things to shoot at. These places are also great places for amateur photographers to practise and try out new angles, different styles, etc.
