The 33rd Fraser’s Hill International Bird Race 2022
By Phil Foo
This world is filled with fascination. One of the things that fascinates me are birds. They are like beautiful living “decorations” placed on Earth to bring about beauty and joy. Some even travel from country to country, sharing their beauty such as the Siberian Thrush from Northern Siberia. The Siberian Thrush flies over here to Malaysia via Japan, and neighbouring countries and landmass.
These awesome migratory birds come here to escape the freezing winter. After visiting Malaysia, they will head to Australia and New Zealand before heading back to their home in Siberia. See, it is not only humans that travel to escape certain weather. Birds do the same too. The Siberian Thrush is not the only bird species that travel. There are a lot of migratory birds that travel from country to country.

In Malaysia, one of the best places to see them is in Fraser’s Hill, Pahang. Bird watchers have been frequenting Fraser’s Hill with binoculars and cameras equipped with long telephoto lenses to partake in the enjoyment of watching these visiting birds, as well as the many beautiful indigenous birds that call Fraser’s Hill home.

There are in fact over 250 species of wild birds up in Fraser’s Hill making it a first-class bird watching destination in this region. Bird watching being a healthy and academic outdoor sport, not only provides loads of enjoyment to bird watchers. Bird watching certainly is an excellent activity that helps children develop a love for nature and gain knowledge about the flora and fauna that not only beautifies our world, but is also important for the survival of every living being on planet Earth.
To encourage a love for birds, Tourism Pahang has organized the 33rd Fraser’s Hill International Bird Race 2022 that will be held on the 22nd to 24th July 2022. The competition will be divided into three categories: –
The Advanced category – for the serious and experienced bird watchers who habitually return to Fraser’s Hill at the slightest opportunity to do trial field runs.
The Novice category – for those who have taken up bird watching out of curiosity or those who treat bird watching as an academic hobby.
The Local category – for local residents who know the whereabouts of birds in Fraser’s Hill and see these birds everyday.
