Cameron Highlands Bee Farms (Apiaries)

If you’ve got questions about bees or if you’re wondering how honey came to be, perhaps a visit to an apiary (bee farm) would help. Cameron Highlands houses three apiaries. They are the Highlands Apiary Farm in Ringlet (on the way to the Habu Boh Tea Plantation), Ee Feng Gu Honey Bee Farm near the Kea Farm, and Cameron Tringkap Bee Farm in Tringkap.

Ee Feng Gu
Having been painted in vibrant colours, the Ee Feng Gu Honey Bee Farm that is located about 1.5 kilometres from the Kea Farm market, is certainly an eye catcher, thus it got my attention. One can do some shopping there for bee related produce such as honey, skin care products, etc. Apart from these, other items such as clothing, titbits, souvenirs, etc. are sold too at the little shopping sections.

Bees At Work
The apiary is right at the bottom; outdoors in a garden with wooden boxes placed all over the place. Bees can be seen flying around these boxes (in good weather). Visitors are allowed to walk about the garden and observe these bees. Be extra careful especially when it has rained earlier as the area gets muddy and slippery. The terrain is a mixture of slops and flat grounds.

Photography
Photographers will be exercising their arms there especially those that enjoy taking macro shots. There are flowers, plants, bees (of course), other insects, etc. It will be a good place for amateur photographers to hone their skills. So, bring along your macro lenses. Do not disturb the bees too as aggravating them is not something you want to do.

Things To Note
I will only recommend the Ee Feng Gu Bee Farm to those without trouble walking as there are a few flight of stairs that one has to climb, the terrain is slghtly sloppy and can get slippery. Also note that the flat sections of the garden are not exactly flat either. As of now I have not visited the other two apiaries but visiting them will certainly be worthwhile too. Perhaps on my next trip.

Summary
Ee Feng Gu Honey Bee Farm is an apiary where bees call home. This apiary is an ideal place for bees to pollinate plants and store honey. Boxes are put in place for bees to create hives and store honey collected from around the area. Apart from taking care of the welfare of these bees, the owners have to also protect them from predators such as hornets, spiders, lizards, etc. There are over a million bees that call the apiary home.
Other than the apiary there is a shopping gallery, maze, market that sells souvenirs, honey products, skin care products (honey related), vegetables, etc.
